       Biotechnology

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the University of Arizona
is seeking applications for a Livestock Biotechnology Extension
Specialist. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver
statewide Extension programming that is industry-responsive, proactive,
and related to livestock management, including tribal producers. This
position will require travel as needed to University County Extension and
Farms locations. This position is a fiscal (12-month)
continuing/continuing-eligible appointment with 65% Extension, 25%
Research, and 10% Services at the rank of Assistant/Associate Specialist
in the School of Animal and Comparative Biomedical Sciences (SACBS).

The successful candidate will:

• Work closely with state extension offices, state producers, and
  have access to large and small animal facilities, including the
  Agricultural Research Center (which includes facilities for environmental
  control of large animals), the VBarV Ranch, the Santa Rita Experimental
  Ranch, the Food Product Safety Laboratory, and the Animal Feeding
  Facility.
• Deliver statewide Extension programming that is industry-
  responsive, proactive, and related to management of livestock, including
  tribal producers.
• Conduct collaborative research with emphasis on beef cattle but
  also on small ruminants.
• Develop communications in appropriate peer-reviewed journals and
  scientific and trade publications.

We encourage applications from candidates with experience in livestock
biotechnology for enhancing livestock production. In particular, we are
interested in applicants who can complement existing Extension expertise
in nutrition, animal physiology, genetics, and animal diseases. We
strongly encourage applicants interested in applying new biotechnologies
including but not limited to (GPS environmental sensors, biometric
sensors, DNA profiling, genetics, etc.). Candidates whose Extension and
Research program will be focused on sustainable animal production are
preferred.
