A post-doc research associate position is open in my lab at NC A&T State
University

A qualified and highly motivated individual is sought to fill the position
to conduct studies of gene expression and modulation using cattle, sheep
and goats as models. The successful candidate will conduct research focused
on definition of functional and genetic variation in galectins across
different species. The postion is part of the project “Molecular signatures
and regulatory checkpoints for animal health” funded by the USDA NIFA.

The objectives of this project are:

 1. To evaluate the expression of Galectin variants in blood from cattle
    sheep and goats
 2. To evaluate the effect of recombinant galectins and their antagonists on
inflammatory gene expression in blood and isolated neutrophils from cows,
    sheep and goats
 3. To determine the effect of dietary galectin antagonists on nematode
infection and immune gene expression in small ruminants

The project involves studies on gene expression and modulation to define
molecular signalers involving galectins using methods to identify genes and
biomarkers such as real time PCR Elisa RNA seq and functional assays such
phagocytosis and oxidative burst. This individual will be expected to
demonstrate the capacity for critical scientific thinking and creativity,
design and conduct experiments, perform sample and data analysis, assist
with student training, and prepare manuscripts for publication.

The Laboratory for Genomic diversity and animal biotechnology in the
Department of Animal Sciences at NC A&T provides a rich environment in
which faculty, research associates and graduate/undergraduate students
regularly interact and conduct collaborative interdisciplinary studies.

Qualifications for this position include an earned Ph.D. in Animal Science,
Biology, Genetics, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Biochemistry,
Physiology, Food science or a related field of study that has equipped the
applicant with the necessary knowledge to perform the duties and
responsibilities of this position. Candidates must have excellent
interpersonal and communication skills and be able to meet eligibility
requirements for work in the United States.
