January 3 – 7, 2020 SYMPOSIUM

Symposium for the Annual Meeting of the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology (SICB)

Location: Austin, TX
Brief info:
Understanding the mechanistic basis by which genes give rise to both stability and variation in phenotypes is one of the Grand Challenges articulated by NSF. Accordingly, scientists in many disciplines are using a wide variety of organisms and experimental approaches to generate complex datasets at different levels of biological organization, all aiming to elucidate aspects of the genome-to-phenome framework. The goals of Building Bridges Symposium and related oral and poster complementary sessions are to build connections among the most successful of these research efforts, as well as to identify critical gaps and future needs to accelerate and facilitate this critical area of research. The Symposium is organized by members of NSF’s Animal Genome-to-Phenome Research Coordination Network (AG2P RCN) to encourage networking across disciplines, gender, ethnicity, and professional ranks. Participant discussions at a concluding workshop will serve as the basis for a white paper identifying major gaps, key barriers

January 8 – 10, 2020 WORKSHOP

Bioinformatics Training Workshop for Animal Genome Analysis

Location: Town & Country San Diego
Lecturer:
Brief info:
During this workshop, students will have hands-on experience in basic UNIX commands and R programming that will allow them to retrieve, store and analyze functional genomics datasets. These datasets will include the assays used in the FAANG project but are also the most widely used methods in animal functional genomics/epigenetics: RNA-seq,Chromatin Immunoprecipitation (ChIP)-seq, and Assay for Transposase-Accessible Chromatin (ATAC)-seq. Additionally, participants will be introduced to basic experimental design, technologies and methods used to produce these types of data and understand the characteristics of each type of data. After this workshop, participants are expected to be able to analyze their own data from these methods by following training materials.
Early registration ends: September 18, 2019

12th World Congress on Genetics Applied to Livestock Production (WCGALP)

Location: de Doelen in Rotterdam, The Netherlands
Brief info:
This is the premier conference for researchers and professionals involved in genetic improvement of livestock. Delegates from around the world gather every four years to attend the scientific program and to network with colleagues. This 11th WCGALP builds on previous successful congresses in Madrid (Spain, 1974 and 1982), Lincoln (USA, 1986), Edinburgh (UK, 1990), Guelph (Canada, 1994), Armidale (Australia, 1998), Montpellier (France, 2002), Belo Horizonte (Brazil, 2006), Leipzig (Germany, 2010) and Vancouver (Canada, 2014). Will be held in conjunction with the International Committee of Animal Recording (ICAR) annual conference, and the Interbull Annual Conference.
Early registration ends: December 01, 2021
