Job Posting Title: Assistant/Associate Professor of Animal
Genomics/Genetics

Job Summary: The Department of Animal Science in the College of Agriculture
and Natural Resources at the University of Connecticut invites applications
for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of animal
genomics/genetics.

Responsibilities include teaching an introductory animal genetics/breeding
course with a focus on domestic animals, a graduate level genomics course,
and advising undergraduate and graduate students. Other duties include
participation as a collaborative team member in the Department of Animal
Science and contribute to the academic community through service at the
department, college and/or University levels. In addition, the appointee
will be required to develop an extramurally funded, innovative research
program in any aspects of livestock animal genomics/genetics. The appointee
will be expected to collaborate with colleagues within and outside the
Department of Animal Science. The University has a Genomics Institute and a
Center for Applied Genetics and Technology which provide infrastructure
support for research and training in genetics, genomics and bioinformatics.
The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) is building a new nonprofit research institute
in Connecticut, JAX Genomic Medicine, which will discover the precise
genomic causes of disease, develop individualized diagnostics, treatments
and cures, and help build Connecticut’s bioscience industry. It is desired
that the appointee’s research program incorporates the use
of genetics, genomics, proteomics, and/or metabolomics on economic  
traits, diseases resistance/susceptibility, comparative genomics,  
computational genomics, or experimental and observational quantitative  
genetics and breeding. 

Qualifications Required:

Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in animal science or related fields with
research emphasis in genomics/genetics. Candidates must have demonstrated
excellent skills in
oral and written communication, and interpersonal relationships.  
Equivalent foreign degrees are accepted. 

Preferred Qualifications at the Assistant Professor Level: Candidates with
postdoctoral experience in animal genomics/genetics will be given a strong
preference. A demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications of original
research in the field of genomics/genetics as well as experience in
teaching or assisting in teaching at the university level are preferred.

Preferred Qualifications at the Associate Professor Level: Established
expertise in animal genomics/genetics is preferred. Candidates currently
holding a faculty or equivalent position with established publication and
extra-mural funding records; currently holding extramural funding for
genomics/genetics research are preferred. Experience in teaching
undergraduate and/or graduate courses at the university level or
equivalence and successfully mentoring graduate students is preferred.

Appointment terms: This is a 9-month, tenure track, research (70%) and
teaching (30%) position at the assistant/associate professor level. The
successful candidate will work at the University of Connecticut’s main
campus located in Storrs. Anticipated start date is August 23, 2014. Salary
will be commensurate with experience.
