As a follow-up to my earlier e-mail, here’s the full position description:

The Department of Animal Science in the College of Agriculture and Life
Sciences at Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa seeks applicants for the Lush
Endowed Chair in Animal Breeding and Genetics. This position is a 9-month,
tenured position at the associate or professor rank with responsibilities
described as 70% research, 25% teaching, and 5% service. Candidates should be
recognized international leaders in animal breeding and genetics or related
fields. Candidates are expected to continue or establish a research program of
international stature in Animal Breeding and Genetics and Genomics at Iowa
State University. Candidates must seek and get competitive, external research
funding to support their research program, Possible areas of focus can include
the use of novel genomic, phenomic, and reproductive technologies,
epidemiological genetics, and computational methods for precision breeding and
farming. The position is not tied to any one species and could go across
species. Candidates are expected to contribute to graduate education and/or
the proposed undergraduate minor and on-line graduate programs in animal
breeding and genetics, and to research mentoring in their field of expertise.
Ample opportunities exist to collaborate with faculty in related disciplines
and through participation in interdisciplinary graduate programs in genetics
and genomics, bioinformatics, and computational biology. The position includes
dedicated operating funds.

This position requires a desire to collaborate with a diverse group of
stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and external constituents.
Key to success will be cultivating relationships with stakeholders that are
mutually beneficial for the department, college, and university. Exceptional
oral and written communications are essential, as well as the ability to
communicate with diverse audiences.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

A PhD in the animal sciences or related discipline, with concentration in
quantitative genetics and/or genomics of food animals.

Additionally, candidates must demonstrate an excellent record of
competitively-funded research and internationally recognized scholarship
commensurate with the ranks of associate or full professor and meet the
department, college, and university standards for appointment to the rank of
associate or full professor with tenure.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with genetics and with demonstrated research productivity.
Demonstrated evidence of the ability to effectively teach and advise in higher
education. Experience engaging with industry stakeholders to provide solutions
to issues through research partnerships.
