The Animal Breeding and Genetics Section of the Department of Animal
Science of Iowa State University invites applications for the J.L. Lush
Endowed Chair in Animal Breeding and Genetics at the Associate or Full
Professor level. This is a 9-month, tenured position with responsibilities
described as 70% research, 25% teaching, and 5% service. Candidates should
be recognized international leaders in animal breeding and genetics or
related fields. Candidates are expected to continue or establish a research
program of international stature in Animal Breeding and Genetics and
Genomics at Iowa State University. Candidates must seek and obtain
competitive, external research funding to support their research program.
Possible areas of focus can include the use of novel genomic, phenomic, and
reproductive technologies, epidemiological genetics, and computational
methods for precision breeding and farming. The position is not tied to any

contribute to graduate education and/or the proposed undergraduate minor
and on-line graduate programs in animal breeding and genetics, and to
research mentoring in their field of expertise. Successful candidates will
join a vibrant group of faculty in a multi-faceted program that has a proud
history of eight decades of innovative animal breeding and genomics
research, education and outreach, which traces back to the pioneering days
of Lush and Hazel. Ample opportunities exist to collaborate with faculty in
related disciplines and through participation in interdisciplinary graduate
programs in genetics and genomics, bioinformatics, and computational
biology. The position includes dedicated operating funds.
