Subject: Postdoc Position in Statistical Genomics
Date: Fri, 29 Jan 2021 12:59:39 -0600

A postdoctoral researcher position in Statistical Genetics, Genomics,
and Bioinformatics is available in the Department of Animal and Avian
Sciences at the University of Maryland, College Park. The postdoc will
be mainly supervised by Dr. Ma at the University of Maryland and will
have the opportunity to collaborate with Drs. Paul VanRaden and George
Liu at the USDA Animal Genomics and Improvement Lab. The goal of the
research projects is to understand the genetic basis of complex traits
and diseases using statistical and computational approaches, as well as
to incorporate functional genomics data to improve GWAS and genomic
selection in dairy cattle.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in genetics, statistics, bioinformatics,
computational biology, or a related field. Knowledge of statistical
genetics, population genetics, complex trait mapping and/or next-
generation sequencing is a plus. Proficiency in programming in R and
Fortran, C/C++, or Java is highly desired. Preference will be given to
candidates with a strong publication record, evidence of substantial
research productivity, and ability to successfully communicate
scientific information.

With the advantageous location near national labs at USDA and NIH, the
group has established extensive collaboration between researchers from
the University of Maryland, the Animal Genomics and Improvement Lab at
USDA-ARS, and the Council on Dairy Cattle Breeding (CDCB). The postdoc
candidate will have a unique opportunity to collaborate with this well-
known group of experts in dairy genetics/genomics with access to the
largest dairy genomics database in the world.

The initial appointment will be for one year, and extension depends on
performance and availability of funding. Salary is competitive and
commensurate with qualifications. Fringe benefits are offered.
Applicants can apply officially through eTerp2 at
https://ejobs.umd.edu/hr/, with the position number 126095. Candidates
should upload CV and contact information of three references. Any
informal inquiry can be addressed to Dr. Li Ma at limaumd.edu.
