faculty position in Animal Science at the Assistant Professor level. This
position will be an integral component of the University of Nevada, Reno,
the Nevada Agricultural Experiment Station, the University of Nevada
Cooperative Extension and the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and
Natural Resources. Summer salary is dependent upon availability of research
grants. We are seeking an Animal Scientist dedicated to educating,
advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in the area of
animal breeding and genetics. Preference will be given to candidates with:
1) expertise in sheep and/or cattle breeding and genetics; 2) a
demonstrated willingness to work with stakeholders or producer groups; and

Nevada. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2020.

Responsibilities:

The Department seeks a dynamic individual to provide leadership in
teaching, research, and service related to livestock breeding and genetics
for application to rangeland environments in the Great Basin and
Intermountain West. The successful applicant will be expected to develop a
strong interdisciplinary, internationally-recognized program focusing on
the genetics, genomics, and breeding of large and/or small ruminants for
sustainable livestock production systems in drylands. Research activities
may be conducted at any or all of the Nevada Agriculture Experiment
Station’s facilities, including Main Station Farm, Wolf Pack Meats, the
Gund Ranch and the future Great Basin Livestock Research Center located in
Eureka, Nevada, or in cooperation with private livestock operations. On-
campus support facilities include the Nevada Center for Bioinformatics, the
Nevada Proteomics Center and the Nevada Genomics Center. The successful
candidate will be expected to collaborate with departmental, college, and
university faculty, including those in Cooperative Extension, as well as

the sustainability of livestock production within the Great Basin and
international semi-arid and arid dryland ecosystems. Expected scholarship
includes communication of research results through peer-reviewed journals,
presentations at scientific conferences, workshops, field days, and other
events, and the supervision of graduate student research. The successful
candidate will be expected to teach animal genetics, animal breeding and
other core animal science-related courses. Acquisition of extramural grant
funding will be essential in order to maintain an active research program
