Joint postdoc position in University Maryland College Park and USDA-ARS
Beltsville

A postdoctoral researcher position in Genomics, Bioinformatics, and
Statistical Genetics is available in the Department of Animal and Avian
Sciences at the University of Maryland, College Park. The postdoc will be
mainly working with Dr. George Liu in the Animal Genomics and Improvement
Lab at USDA-ARS Beltsville and jointly co-advised by Dr. Li Ma from the
University of Maryland. The goal of the research is to use third generation
sequencing and mapping technologies to perform pan-genome and structural
variation analyses, as well as to test their associations with production
and health traits in dairy cattle.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in genetics, bioinformatics, computational
biology, statistics, computer science, or a related field. A Ph.D. earned
no earlier than 2015 is required. Knowledge of genome assembly, population
genetics, statistical genetics, complex trait mapping and/or high
throughput sequencing is a plus. Proficiency in programming in R and
Python, Perl, C/C++, or Java is highly desired. Preference will be given to
candidates with a strong publication record, evidence of substantial
research productivity, and ability to successfully communicate scientific
information.

With the advantageous location near national labs at USDA and NIH, the two
groups has established extensive collaboration between researchers in the
University of Maryland and the Animal Genomics and Improvement Lab at USDA-
ARS, including Curt Van Tassell, Ben Rosen, Derek Bickhart, Paul Vanraden,
John Cole, etc. The postdoc candidate will have a unique opportunity to
collaborate with these well-known groups of experts in dairy
genetics/genomics.

The initial appointment will be for one year, and extension up to 3 years
depends on performance and availability of funding. Salary is competitive
and commensurate with qualifications. Fringe benefits are offered.
Applicants can apply officially through eTerp at https://ejobs.umd.edu,
with the position number 124630 or directly at
