Two PhD positions:
1) B. Sc. In Life Sciences, Statistics, Physics or Mathematics (CNV 1342/1675)
2) B. Sc. in Health Sciences or Biostatistics (CNV 1343/1676)

The Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology Group (GMEG) led by Dr Núria Malats
is looking for two highly motivated PhD students. The GMEG is a strong
interdisciplinary research team, with a focus ranging from the
identification of aetiological agents and mechanisms to the translation of
the findings into the clinical and Public Health domains, mainly on bladder
and pancreatic cancers. We use a wide variety of biomarkers to better
characterise the exposome, genome and phenome.

Positions profile:

PhD student with a background in any field related to the epidemiology and
biostatistics. To be able to participate in the selection process, it is a
requirement to accompany the admission document to the doctorate program,
which can be issued by the unit responsible for that program, or by the
doctoral or postgraduate school. The nonpresentation of the document is
cause for exclusion in the selection process.

CNV 1342/1675:

The candidate will be involved in the building of risk scores including
both epidemiological, clinico-pathological, and omics data, using state-of-
the-art statistical methods to big data analysis, with the objective of
identifying populations at high risk of developing cancer. Activities will
include the analysis of data from both public databases and epidemiological
studies in which GMEG is participating/leading, application of state of the
art statistical analysis in R, Phyton, Fortran or other programming
languages, and elaboration of reports, writing of scientific outputs and
editing of academic articles. Experience: 1) Master in Biostatistics,
Bioinformatics, Quantitative Genetics, Computational Biology, or any
related field. 2) Computer/Programming skills and experience in the
biostatistics/bioinformatics analyses using any programming languages (R,
Phyton, Perl and/or Fortran) will be desired. 3) Ability in analysing data
from epidemiology, genetics or bioinformatics fields will be highly
desirable. 4) Experience in the preparation of scientific reports, and
edition of academic articles, as well as the participation in research
projects will be a plus.

CNV 1343/1676:

The candidate will perform the analysis of epidemiological studies and
omics data (including microbiome, metabolome and methylome) to detect
cancer risk biomarkers. He/She will participate in the data collection and
preparation, and will be involved in the analysis of both omics and non-
omics data. Activities will also include the elaboration of scientific
reports and writing of academic articles. Experience: 1) Master in
Epidemiology or Biomedical Statistics. 2) Programming skills and experience
in the statistical/bioinformatics analysis in R. 3) Experience in cancer
research field, epidemiological/genetic/bioinformatics data analysis will
be highly valuable, as well as the experience in the preparation of
scientific reports, and edition of academic articles.

Other skills:

Good communication skills. Fluent spoken and written English. Strong
teamwork skills. Excellent academic record.

Classification: Predoctoral student; Salary: 21.688,66 €; Working hours:
