Dear Aquaculture Genomics Colleagues:

This is the second Newsletter from Aquaculture Genomics.  We do hope to
keep the Newsletter out twice a year.  If you need to share any
information among Aquaculture Genomics/Genetics community, please send
your items to Dr. John Liu (zliu@acesag.auburn.edu) and they will be
included in the next Newsletter.

  • Dr. Alan Mileham (Alan.Mileham@SygenInternational.com) of Sygen International and Dr. John Benzie (j.benzie@unsw.edu.au) of Moana Technologies has come on board, joining Roger Yant and Jim Carlberg/ Mark Westerman, as our Industry representatives. They will serve as strong liaison persons between aquaculture genome researchers and industries.
  • Two oyster BAC libraries are now available for the research community. The BAC libraries were constructed from Crassostrea virginica and C. gigas. The BAC filters are also available for use in hybridizations. For more information, please visit https://www.genome.clemson.edu/orders/.
  • Aquaculture Species Group: Graduate Student and Postdoctoral Fellowship Bursaries for PAG XIII: The Aquaculture Species Group is pleased to announce the availability of a limited number of Travel Bursaries, of up to $1,000, to support the attendance of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at PAG XIII. Every graduate student and postdoctoral fellow who registers for the PAG XIII meeting and submits an Abstract to the Aquaculture Workshop is eligible for consideration. Applications should be submitted by E-mail to either John Liu (zliu@acesag.auburn.edu) or Greg Warr (warrgw@musc.edu) and include the following items. A) the Title and Authors of the submitted Abstract, B) a statement of the anticipated costs for the applicant to attend the PAG XIII meeting, and a statement of additional resources (if any) that will be available to support their attendance. Applicants MUST also arrange for their supervisor to send an E-mail to John Liu or Greg Warr confirming their status as a graduate student or postdoctoral fellow.
  • The deadline for the submission of abstracts to PAG XIII is October 1, 2004. Please submit your abstracts through the web site of PAG XIII (http://www.intl-pag.org), following the procedures as set by Scherago International.
  • The Aquaculture Genomics web site has been initiated at http://www.aquagenomics.org, for any ideas or suggestions, please contact Dr. Caird Rexroad (CRexroad@ncccwa.ars.usda.gov).
