NRSP8 Aquaculture Species coordinators had a conference call to discuss
issues related to the PAG Aquaculture Workshop and Annual Report on June 25,
2010. A number of specific recommendations were made from the conference call
including early abstract deadline for the PAG Aquaculture Genomics Workshop.
PAG 2011 Aquaculture Genomics Workshop. The Plant and Animal Genome
(PAG) Aquaculture Workshop will be held in San Diego January 15-16, 2011. The
theme for this years Aquaculture Workshop is: Post-genomics aquaculture
research: acquiring and using high-quality reference genomes for finfish and
shellfish species. Invited speakers will include Dr. William Davidson (Simon
Fraser University), Dr. Ben Koop (University of Victoria), Dr. John Liu (Auburn
University), Dr. Geoff Waldbieser (USDA), and Dr. John Buchanan (AquaBounty
Technologies). Additional speakers for the 1.5 day workshop will be chosen by
the committee from abstracts submitted directly via e-mail to the Aquaculture
Workshop Chair, Dr. Matt Rise (mrise@mun.ca). In order to be selected for an
oral presentation, you must meet the abstract submission deadline of September
1, 2010.
Abstract Submission and Review. Abstracts to be considered for oral
presentations at the PAG Aquaculture Genomics Workshop must be submitted by
email to Matt Rise (mrise@mun.ca) by September 1, 2010. Please note that all
abstracts (for both oral and poster presentations) must also be submitted
directly to PAG using the PAG website http://www.intl-pag.org/ (deadline:
November 1 2010). Abstracts being considered for an oral presentation will be
reviewed by committee after the September 1 2010 internal deadline, and those
selected for oral presentations will be notified in early October 2010.
Abstracts will be judged on both the scientific quality of the abstract, and
interest to USDA National Animal Genome Project (National Research Support
Project NRSP-8) aquaculture species stakeholders.
Travel Award Applications. The Aquaculture Genomics Group of the NRSP-8 is
pleased to announce the availability of a limited number of Travel Bursaries,
of up to $1000, to support the attendance of graduate students and postdoctoral
fellows at PAG to be held January 15-19, 2011. All graduate students and
postdoctoral fellows who will submit an abstract to the Aquaculture workshop are
eligible for consideration. Applicants should submit all the required items as
listed below by September 1, 2010, through e-mail to Matt Rise (mrise@mun.ca):
1) the abstract to be submitted to PAG, including the title and authors;
2) a statement of the anticipated costs for the applicant to attend the PAG
meeting, including information on additional resources (if any) that will be
available to support their attendance; and
3) Travel award applicants MUST also arrange for their supervisor to send an
e-mail to Matt Rise confirming their status as a graduate student or
postdoctoral fellow.
Award selections will be made and awardees will be notified soon after the
September 1 deadline. Awards will be paid after the meeting as a travel stipend.
Special Genomics Session calls for abstracts and participation in 2011 WAS
Aquaculture Conference in New Orleans: World Aquaculture Society Aquaculture
America 2011 will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana February 28-March 3, 2011,
https://www.was.org/WasMeetings/meetings/Default.aspx?code=AA2011. A Special
Session of Aquaculture Genomics will be held during the meeting. Please submit
your abstract under finfish genetics and send a note to the organizer, John Liu by
email (liuzhan@auburn.edu) of your interest to make oral presentations in the
session. The organizer will communicate with you as to the date and time of your
talk if selected. Please note that the deadline for submission of your abstract is
