Thanks are given to Dr. Yniv Palti and Dr. Krista Nichols. The 2009
NRSP8 Aquaculture Genome Workshop was held in conjunction with the
International Plant and Animal Genome XVII Conference in San Diego,
CA. Dr. Yniv Palti of the USDA/ARS National Center for Cool and Cold
Water Aquaculture served as the organizer of the workshop and the Chair.
He has done a terrific job. We are grateful for his great effort and
dedication. The workshop was well organized and we are grateful to lots
of work and efforts they put into the program. Dr. Krista Nichols of Purdue
University served as the Aquaculture NRSP8 secretary and Chair-Elect.

Dr. Krista Nichols of Purdue University will be our organizer for the 2010
NRSP8 Aquaculture Genome Workshop to be held in early January 2010
in San Diego. If you have any suggestions concerning the format of the
workshop and/or invited speakers, please contact Dr. Nichols at
kmnichol@purdue.edu
Matt Rise is elected as the organizer for the Aquaculture Genome
Workshop in 2011: Dr. Matthew Rise (mrise@mun.ca) of the Memorial
University of Newfoundland, Canada, was elected to be Chairelect/
secretary for 2010 and will be the Chair and organizer of the
Aquaculture Genome Workshop in 2011.
Sylvie Quiniou elected as Coordinator for Catfish: Dr. Sylvie Quiniou
of USDA ARS Catfish Genetics Unit at Stoneville, Mississippi has been
elected as Coordinator for Catfish under the NRSP-8 Aquaculture. Please
join me to congratulate her for this new function.
NRSP-8 Aquaculture species coordinators are to have a conference
call: The species coordinators of NRSP-8 Aquaculture will have a
conference call on April 23, 2009 to discuss strategies of aquaculture
genomics. If you have any issues of concern, please contact your species
coordinator so he/she can bring them to the conference call.
Shrimp microarray available: The Marine Genomic program at the
Hollings Marine Lab is pleased to announce the construction and
validation of a large scale unigene array for Litopeanus sp, resulting from
the recent completion of the EST sequencing of the shrimp transcriptome
by the late Dr. Paul Gross supported a USDA grant. The array consists of
nearly 22K shrimp unigenes along with suitable controls and landing lights
and has preformed exceptionally well in the QA/QC validation tests. The
shrimp unigenes are represented in duplicates on each array to permit
validation of the performance and a number of control spots, which permit
assessment of non-specific binding as well as provisions for spike in
controls are provided. All genes represented on the arrays are in the
public domain and available at www.marine genomics.org and in
GenBank at NCBI. The arrays are available for purchase at
